Before a product is released for series production, it is important to validate its design, functionality and manufacturability. That is why VDL VDS supports customers with prototypes, test series and pilot production.

Depending on the application, components are produced using flexible production methods, such as 2D laser cutting, bending, pressing or soft tooling. This allows products to be tested and optimised without immediately investing in costly series-production tooling.

During this phase, our engineers work closely with the customer to make improvements in quality, manufacturability and cost price. This creates the basis for a stable and cost-efficient production process.

The foundations of stable and cost-efficient series production are laid with the right tooling. That is why VDL VDS has its own toolmaking department, where production equipment is designed, built, maintained and optimised.

Our specialists develop a wide range of tools, including progressive stamping and bending tools, forming tools, soft tools, inspection fixtures and other production aids. With this expertise entirely in-house, we can respond quickly, limit technical risks and optimally align tools with the required production method.

From the prototype phase to large-scale series production, our toolmaking department is an important link in creating a reliable, reproducible and cost-efficient production process.

When a product is ready for the market, we scale up production to a stable and reliable series process. Using modern press lines, automated production cells and robotics, we produce both medium-sized and large series with consistent quality and high delivery reliability.

Through continuous process monitoring and quality control, we ensure a reproducible production process that meets our customers’ high requirements.

Depending on the application, a product can be supplied as an individual stamped or formed part. It can also be supplied as a fully assembled component or finished product. VDL VDS therefore offers various additional processes for further processing after stamping or forming.

These include processes such as spot welding, robotic welding, 3D laser cutting, assembly, installing fastening elements, post-processing and surface treatments. By combining multiple production steps within one chain, we supply products ready for the next production step or final assembly.

By combining these processes within one organisation, we act as a single point of contact for the complete production process. This reduces coordination between suppliers and shortens the overall lead time.

The customer decides where the boundary lies. This can range from a single manufactured part to a completely finished and assembled product.

Even after production, we help determine the most efficient supply chain approach. With customer-specific packaging, Just-In-Time deliveries and reliable logistics partners, we ensure products are delivered at the right time, in the right place and in the required packaging.
