POST-PROCESSING

POST-PROCESSING

What do we mean by Post-processing?

Post-processing covers all operations carried out after a product has been stamped, formed, welded or cut. Its purpose is to prepare the product for further processing, assembly or end use.

Why is aftercare important?

Post-processing improves a product’s quality, safety and functionality. It removes sharp burrs and contaminants. It also protects or enhances the surface, preparing the product for the next process step.

Post-treatment With
VDL VDS Technical Industry

A high-quality finished product requires more than just a precise production process. That is why VDL VDS offers various post-processing options. These prepare products for assembly, surface treatment or end use.

Depending on the application, we remove sharp edges and burrs, clean parts thoroughly, and coordinate various surface treatments. By integrating these processes into VDL VDS’s supply chain, we reduce logistics movements, shorten lead times, and provide customers with a complete finished product.

Safe and high-quality products
Deburring

After punching and hydraulic forming, burrs and sharp edges may occur. Products can be deburred when a burr-free finish is required.

During this process, the workpieces are placed in a drum with special grinding stones. A controlled vibratory motion removes burrs and evenly finishes the surfaces.

In addition to improving safety and product quality, deburring offers further benefits. It prepares the surface for subsequent processes, such as powder coating, painting and other surface treatments. At the same time, it cleans the products, making them ready for further processing, such as welding or assembly.

The right protection for every application
Surface treatments

Depending on the application, surface treatment may be necessary to improve a product’s corrosion resistance, wear resistance or appearance.

Common surface treatments include cathodic dip coating (KTL), powder coating, wet painting, galvanising and hardening. We recommend the most suitable treatment based on the application, environment and product specifications.

For this purpose, VDL VDS works with a carefully selected network of specialised partners. Our quality engineers periodically assess and audit these suppliers. This enables us to ensure consistent quality, reliable delivery times and a controlled process.

By integrating surface treatments into VDL VDS’s supply chain, we reduce logistical movements. We deliver products ready for the next production step or direct end use.

A clean basis for further processing
Degreasing

A clean product is essential for many subsequent processes. Degreasing removes oils, grease and other contaminants created during production.

As a result, products are optimally prepared for bonding, coating, powder coating or other surface treatments.
