DEEPDRAWING

General Information

What is deep drawing?

Deep drawing is a metal forming process in which a flat sheet of metal is formed into a three-dimensional shape using dedicated tooling. During this process, the material is drawn into the die, creating hollow components such as trays, housings and covers.

Because the material is formed rather than cut, deep drawing produces strong, dimensionally accurate parts with an excellent surface finish, even for complex geometries.

Which materials are suitable for deep drawing?

Commonly used materials include steel, stainless steel and aluminium. The choice depends on the application, strength requirements and desired finish.

Can VDL VDS contribute ideas during the design process?

Absolutely. We already support customers during the design phase with advice on manufacturability, material selection and product optimisation.

Deep Drawing At
VDL VDS Technical Industry

VDL VDS specialises in deep drawing high-quality metal components for demanding applications. We combine experience, advanced technology and process expertise. This enables us to produce components that meet the highest standards for dimensional accuracy, strength and repeatability.

Thanks to our extensive knowledge of tooling and process control, we can consistently produce complex shapes, even in larger quantities. Delivery reliability, quality and efficient production are central to our approach.

Automation & Robotics

To ensure a stable and efficient production process, VDL VDS focuses strongly on automation. Robotic loading and transfer guide products through the process accurately and consistently. This minimises variation and safeguards quality.

In addition, we have an advanced 1500-ton transfer press system. It can fully automate the forming of complex products in multiple steps. This enables us to produce high volumes with consistent quality and short lead times.

From Idea to Series Production

We actively contribute during the design phase and help customers optimise components for the stamping process. This early involvement enables us to contribute to:

  • lower production costs
  • improved manufacturability
  • shorter lead times

Where necessary, we combine stamping with other processing methods. This enables us to supply complete semi-finished products, finished products or assemblies.
